Tyrone Jarrett, Sr., Fire Service started at Engine #44, (January 22, 1973) as one of first blacks to be assigned to #44 roster. As you already know, Engine #44 became the #1 fire suppression Engine company in the United States for 12 years in a row... 1982 - 1994. In fact Detroit famous "Devil's Nights" fires started in Engine #44 first alarm district. Jarrett, retired from Detroit Fire Department in March 1995 to become fire chief of the City of Decatur, Illinois. Jarret has been a fire chief in Royal Oak Twp., Michigan while also employed in Detroit (1987 - 1995). As fire chief, Jarrett was installed as Chairman of Highland Park "Arson Task Force" in 1997. In 2000 - 20010, Jarrett became fire chief in Riverdale, Illinois. Later Jarrett was appointed fire chief in Pontiac, Michigan 2010. Jarrett was appointed fire chief of Hazel Crest, Illinois 2020 and has a 48 year history in the fire service. Jarrett is a two time 100 club medal of valor recipient, and a two time medal of valor winner in Michigan (1977 & 1988).
